Empowerment Day

The political climate in this country has left many LGBTQ+ community members feeling especially vulnerable. Some trans people and their families are scrambling to flee their home states. Others have suddenly found themselves without access to medical care. And for the first time in its 43-year history, the Human Rights Campaign has declared a state of emergency for LGBTQ+ people.

Conflict de-escalation is a strategy to prevent people from escalating into violence. It's designed to help communities protect and take care of each other using an approach that, if successful, can limit or completely eliminate the need for police intervention. With that in mind, we've invited the Mt. Horeb Police Department to educate us about our rights, when to contact them, and what kinds of incidents they want to be made aware of. Sara from The Yoga Space will guide us through gentle yoga poses and breath work so you'll have tools at your disposal to stay grounded and centered. Finally, Underground Self Defense will provide hands on training in self defense with an emphasis on de-escalating tense situations.
